Help for Heroes
Porters English Restaurant & Covent Garden Grill have been jolly busy over the past couple of years quietly ‘doing their bit’ raising money for Help for Heroes. Activities included sponsoring Flight for Heroes, an incredible adventure that involved two novice ‘pielots’ para-motoring the length of Britain. The team which included some Porters staff completed this challenge in 10 days, landing at Duke of York's Royal Military School in Dover on the 28th May.
Porters also added a discretionary 75p to every tables bill and then made that donation up to £1.00.
The results of all this activity, a rather splendid and large cheque of £113, 908.96 was presented to Mark Elliot Head of External Operations at Help for Heroes
Neil Wornham of Porters who coordinated the fundraising said ‘I am enormously proud of the team here at Porters and Covent Garden Grill, they have all put their heart and souls into the various events that we held, masses of our guests have questioned why we have ‘only’ added 75p and instead given us £10 or more; it really does warm the heart, it was the same the length of the country it really demonstrates peoples generosity. A special thank you has to go to the guests of a hotel in Skegness where we were grounded by a thick sea mist for a day or so.
They had a whip-round during their cabaret and in the morning we had two buckets brimming full outside our room.
